The Fives Courts were built in 1908 in memory of Charles Churchill, Chairman of the Governing Council and a key supporter of St John's. They were one of the first developments on the School site after the main School buildings. Having never been refurbished in over a century, they were falling into disrepair and were beginning to become unusable. Thanks to generous gifts made by OJs, Parents, Friends of the School and current and former staff the Fives Courts have now been fully refurbished and are ready for another several decades use by future generations of pupils at St John's.

Viv Haxby, 2009 Blue Badge Guide of the year, gave an enlightening and informative guided tour to two groups of St John's Friends around the St James's Palace area. Beginning with the statue of George IV in Trafalgar Square, she retraced the steps of English monarchs and their paramours and recounted tales of the 300 year history of St James's and the Royal Court explaining how todays aristocracy owes its existence almost exclusively to the philanderings of yesterdays monarchs. |
